I love experiences. Going out and trying new things is far better to me than receiving material goods, so when my boyfriend asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday this year, I had to ask for a lunch at La Colombe, a restaurant that had been on my “to-try list” for a while.
Nested at the top of Silvermist, the restaurant is a beautiful oasis in the valley. Already huge fans of Foxcroft, another restaurant in the family, we were very excited to try what has been awarded one of the best restaurants in the country.
We had a choice between the Spring lunch menu and the Chef’s lunch menu, an 11 course extravaganza (not counting the welcome palette cleanser, a delicate ‘egg’ nestled on a table of foliage that you consume on entry), and we went with the latter. While we chose not to do the wine tasting, I did sample quite a few of the excellently selected picks, all of which were incredible.
I don’t want to go into too much detail on each course – it’s one of those experiences you need to try for yourself – I will say that each item was better than the next, although we could hardly believe it was possible. It truly was theatrical dining at its finest and I highly recommend you try them at least once in your life – you won’t regret it.
