K-Beauty Cult Faves: Cosrx Good Morning Gel Cleanser & J.One Jelly Pack

I am officially obsessed with K-Beauty.

I mean, I was always up for a good sheet mask (case in point), but I recently decided to delve further into my education on the best Korea has to offer. So, as a start,I decided to try out the Cosrx One Step Moisture Up Kit and J.One Jelly Pack Vita Mask. As both contained cult favourite beauty products that I was interested in, I though this would be the best way to try them out and start my foray properly into the world of K-Beauty.

Cosrx Moisure

First up: the Cosrx One Step Moisture Up Kit (R80). This three step kit is made up of the following steps:

  1. Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.
  2. Moisture Up Pad – cotton pads presoaked in a hyaluronic acid and propolis extract serum, and
  3. Holy Moly Snail Mask, a sheet mask soaked in red ginseng water and snail essence.

I absolutely loved this kit. Each individual item works like a dream and my skin felt softer, more nourished and moisturised. It’s also perfect for travelling, as you get an entire skincare regime in an easy to pack and store sachet (I’m actually busy stocking up for my upcoming trips – nothing dries my skin out faster than flying).

There is also a One Step Pimple Clear Kit, which I’ve also tried – the only difference is step 2, which contains the Pimple Clear Pad instead. The pads are toners, and has one textured side to wipe away dead skin cells and gently exfoliate, while the smooth side tones the skin and are absolutely incredible.

Cosrx low pH good morning gel cleanser

Besides just loving kits that allow me to try a bit of everything before I buy full sized versions, the Cosrx One Step Moisture Up Kit also gave an alleged single use application of their Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (R195). “Alleged”, because with this cleanser, a little goes a long way. You only need to use a small amount of the gel cleanser, as it quickly foams up and provides a refreshing morning cleanse (you can also use it as your second cleanse in the evening). After using it twice I fell in love and, as I had seen raving reviews about it, knew I had to buy it.

The cleanser is formulated using purifying botanical extracts such as tea tree oil, evening primrose and a mild BHA. Plus its low pH (between 5 – 6) ensures that skin remains happy and balanced. While at first the tea tree oil gave it a fairly strong clinical smell, I rather enjoy it now. My skin feels thoroughly cleaned and not tight or stripped in any way and I completely understand why it’s gotten the reputation it has – my skin looks and feels the best it ever has.

Next, I decided to try the  J.One Jelly Pack Vita Mask (R60). This kit is made up as follows:

  1. Step 1 is made of soft tencel fabric that perfectly moulds to the face to deliver a powerful serum formulated with hyaluronic acid, fermented black tea extract, and super antioxident fullerene to hydrate and fight free radicals; and
  2. Step 2 is a single use of the cult favourite Jelly Pack, which works to lock in moisture while lifting and firming, as well as providing the perfect canvas for makeup.

Again, I bought this kit to mostly get a feel for the J.One Jelly Pack  – another cult favourite and a bestseller at Sephora. The mask applied and stuck on really well, and my face felt smooth and revived afterwards. The Jelly Pack was very sticky and a little runny, so you have to be careful when applying (my fingers stuck to my skin at times). After patting (don’t rub) it onto the skin, it definitely reduced pores and tightened the skin and I could see why everyone revers this as a miracle primer – my skin looked flawless after putting on my make-up.

I decided to buy a full size version of the Jelly Pack, but after looking around and reading some reviews, decided to get the J.One Red Jelly Pack (R455) instead, beause the closer I get to my 30th birthday, the more I look for anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products. And this pack, formulated with Astaxanthin, a red algae known to be one of the most powerful antioxidants, contains 6000 times the antioxidant content of Vitamin C.

It also has a slightly firmer texture, a bit like glue and more jelly-like than the original pack, and gives you a slight rosy tone. As a primer it works as well as the original pack – my skin looks unbelievable. I also use it as a overnight mask or night serum – my skin feels hydrated and soft and I have a new glow about me. I would 100% recommend!

I bought all my products through Glow Theory.
